Nidderdale Sportive

 

Be the first to experience the joys of riding on the awesome roads of North Yorkshire. Some of the same roads selected for the 2014 Tour de France.

This will be second Nidderdale Sportive starting and finishing in Summerbridge, Nr Harrogate (see map below).  The route takes in some of the Classic climbs, including Lofthouses, Kettlewell and Malham; the course is 85 miles and 55 miles of hard, but very rewarding cycling.  There will be two feed stations with a rear broom wagon for any major mechanical problems.   

 

 

Event Description:

The Sportive will start and finish in the small village just outside Summerbridge (Dacre Banks Village Hall).  You will ride towards Pateley Bridge on the B6165.  Here you will turn right heading towards Gouthwaite reservoir which will be on your right hand side, this road then takes you to the first real major climb of the day (Loft houses Tapping Hill).  You will then drop down towards Roundhill reservoir and cross over Leighton reservoir, heading towards Keld bank, here you will turn sharp left onto Cote Lane.  At the cross roads you turn left onto Stark Bank Rd, this road will take you onto A6108 which in turn takes you towards Middleham. You stay let at Middleham slowly climbing for the next 60 mins of riding on Coverham Lane, this will bring you through the villages of Carlton, Gammersgill and Horsehouse.  Here the climb kicks up (20 to 25%) hard to the top of Woodale, once at the summit you will quickly drop down into Kettlewell.  From Kettlewell you will head south on the B6160 for approximately 2 miles, then you will turn hard right towards the village Arncliffe, here you climb again on Brootes Lane (great climb) this will bring you to Malham Moor.  You will drop down into Malham Village heading towards Airton, here you turn left towards Winterburn and then The Angel Inn on Hills Lane.  You will then join the B6265 heading towards Linton and then Burnsell, here you will turn left heading towards Appletreewick.  You will then turn right back onto the B6265 just before Stump Cross Caverns, from here you take a right on Blake Lane/sandy gate.  You then take a sharp left on Harper lane/Dacre lane back towards Darce Village and the finish.
